Until age 5 I was best friends with Marcie Hacker and I don't remember really what we did together. After that my best friend was Shannyn Shaw. We loved to play original Nintendo (Mario Brothers), eat ice cream and cookies, make movies, and pretend to be older than we were. I had several school friends. My best friends in elementary school were Lauren Murakami, Lindsey Arnoldus, Jamie Jacobs, Emily Cutler, Lynette Hooper, and Tyla Patterson. We all played sports with Murray community (soccer, basketball, softball, and volleyball).
I had a lot of childhood best friends...some from church, some from school, others from the neighborhood...and still others who were long distance best friends. Rebecca (Becca) Curtis was my BEST best friend who lived next door to me growing up. Other neighborhood friends included Shanna Pugsley, Jeanie Solcz, Janet Frank and Kari Walker. Church friends included Jana Rees, Jodi Lane, Jenny Byron, and Symbri Martinez. School best friends were Becky Hickenlooper, Stephanie Margetts, and Ronnie Cooper. My long distance best friends were Mike Stolle and my first cousin once removed, Cindy Yamasaki. We loved everything from playing school with all the neighborhood kids to camping out together. We also enjoyed playing cops and robbers, kick soccer, having water fights, cooking (4-H), swimming, hiking, fishing, and basically any other outdoor activity you could think of. We spent many summers making ramen noodles and having picnics under our neighbor's trampoline!
My sister Bethany was probably my best best friend. Even though when she was mad she told me I wasn't her sister. I was also friends with the Shaws, Kali Rackliffe, April Sperry, and Angie Lucero. When I was really little I was also friends with boys such as Jaron Green and Matt Wilson that walked me to the bus and pretend-married me.
When I was young we lived on a farm and our nearest neighbors were through a pasture next to our farm and across a street. My friend, Debi Dunn, lived in a house across the street (actually the only house across the street!). We did lots of things together like pop popcorn and play outside on the swings. We moved when I was 12 and we lost track of each other. But I went to her wedding reception and she came to mine. Also she became Miss Utah and was in the Miss America pageant. She was a fantastic dancer and it was so fun to see her on TV!
My best friend of all times was my sister, Becca. We shared clothes, rooms, and everything else you can imagine. There were so many kids my age in my neighborhood including Janet Frank, Kari Walker, Jeanie Solcz, Shanna Pugsley, Michelle Boley, Jessica Blake, Julie Oviatt, Karen Byron, Angelin Tafua, and Cherianne Jones. My school friends were Denice Croft, Laura Hickenlooper, Jamie Huntsman, Amy Miller, Jodi Frank, Emily Swenson, Becky Trujillo and Melanie Tripp. We used to play Chinese jumprope and Double Dutch. We also played the A-Team (enacted), Barbies, phone pranking boys, swimming in Jeanie's pool, jumping on Kari's trampoline, and Truth, Dare, Double Dare, Promise, or Repeat which always included boys in the fun.
Not really. We didn't stay in one place long enough or we lived on farms in the middle of nowhere. The closest to a best friend in Duarte, was a neighbor boy that I knocked out when he pitched me a baseball in our backyard and I hit the ball to his forehead. No best friends in Glendora. In Centralia, there was Frankie Tanaka, but we only lived there 6 months. In Fountain Valley it was Leslie Ohta, Joe Livingston, Steve Kato, Jimmy Y?, and Richard Hara. We were farmers that worked on the farm. We would play baseball and football and go fishing. Joe didn't go fishing with us. Ohta's and Kato's had a family boat.
