Oh man, let's see if I can get this right, it's been a while since I've recited it...2 Timothy 1:7-8 For God hath not given us the spirit of fear, but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. Be thou not therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord.
There are a few reasons this is my favorite scripture. One, I have it memorized (which is a big accomplishment for me) and it is much more applicable in the world when there is a time in my life that I can use this advice and just verbalize it to myself anytime, anywhere.
Second reason, is that I really do need this advice always. I'm often afraid (I'm rather a chicken it comes to standing up for myself, what I believe in, others in need, or even just stating an opinion, having confidence to volunteer my talents and abilities, etc) and I need to realize that God doesn't give the spirit of fear so if I'm doing what is right then I know that I don't need fear but can feel calm and peaceful and even a sense of strength in myself and my beliefs.
One of my favorite scriptures is Jacob 6:12: O be wise; what can I say more? I think of this as the "don't be stupid" scripture! I think I mostly know what I should do but sometimes I forget to be smart enough to do it. Also I really have come to love Jacob because he is not really a major prophet or anything but he gave such wise counsel and stayed true to what he believed was true. He lived in the shadow of his brother Nephi much like Hyrum did of Joseph Smith. Both of them quietly supported their brothers and stayed true to the end. It makes me realize that you don't have to be famous or wellknown to be a really good person.
I love Moroni 8. I am especially fond of the last part that talks about charity. I do not have it memorized but am working on that now. I love this passage of scriture because of how descriptive and detailed it is about charity. I have always felt that since charity is the true love of Christ, and Christ is who we ultimately strive to be like, I should be very familiar with what charity is. Another reason I really love reading about charity is because, as the Relief Society motto states, charity never faileth.
One of my favorite scriptures is Ether 12:27...And if men come unto me I will show unto them their weakness. I give unto men weakness that they may be humble; and my grace is sufficient for all men that humble themselves before me; for if they humble themselves before me, and have faith in me, then I will make weak things become strong unto them...Obviously, I have many weaknesses, so it is a good reminder that all is not lost. And put to the test, it has proven true in my life.
I try to think of a favorite scripture every time that question is asked, but can never come up with one I can call my favorite. I love all of the scriptures. Maybe Mosiah 2:17. "And behold, I tell you these things that ye may learn wisdom; that ye may larn that when ye are in the service of your fellow beings ye are only in the service of your God." I don't consider myself much of leader. My only leadership talent is by example, following and serving others. I am happiest when I am helping or doing something worthwhile. At least, I think so.
