Tyson and I went to Park City for the first night and then to St. George for a week after that. I had saved up money in a "honeymoon pig" since the start of college. Tyson and I decided to use less than half of it for our honeymoon, go somewhere cheaper, and put the rest in savings...since we are poor.
Shawn and I decided (since we were both going to college and didn't want to work full-time and go to school full-time) that we would do a cheap honeymoon. We ended up going to Park City for our honeymoon and stayed in Carolyn Walker's condo there for $25 a night. It had a kitchen, so we even went grocery shopping so we wouldn't have to eat out the whole time. We did go out to eat once during our honeymoon but mostly just spent time walking around looking and shops and enjoying each other's company. We did go downtown to the Howard Johnson hotel the first night. And actually, in the middle of our honeymoon, we drove back to Salt Lake City so we could attend one of my friend's wedding receptions (Anissa & Rob Wall).
Ben and I went to Northern California on our honeymoon. We stayed for about a week and went to Angel's Camp, Yosemite, Big Trees National Park, Moaning Cavern, and the Chocoholics Chocolate Factory. I think one of my favorite places was Big Trees. It was awesome to see how such big trees could come from such small seeds. I also remember going to church there. The ward seemed so nice. Most of our honeymoon was payed for. Veloy, my former boss at Nellie's Draperies let me stay in her time share and Ben's dad paid for our airfare.
Julie and I stayed our first night of our wedding at the Holiday Inn on Redwood Road and North Temple in Salt Lake City, Utah. We went to Julie's parents' house the next day and opened wedding presents. We left for San Francisco in the late afternoon. I remember being blinded by the setting sun and I was not able to see anything but a round spot. I was lucky to be able to pull over to the side of I-80 unti lI recovered my sight. We stopped briefly in Sacramento, but I don't remember what we saw. We stopped at the Oakland Temple and walked the grounds, but it wasn't open. In San Francisco, we ate on Fisherman's Wharf, saw the Golden Gate State Park, and San Simeon. We drove down the coast to Huntington Beach to our Open House reception at my parents house on Gettysburg Drive. It was very nice to see some of my old friends and neighbors I had not seen in a few years. We drove home on I-15.
For our honeymoon we went down the coast of California and ended up at an open house for us in Huntington Beach. Some of the things that Calvin did not mention was that the snow at Donner's Pass was about 6 feet on the side of the road. Luckily there were no storms (December) so the road was clear. Also we spent Christmas Eve and Christmas day on the road and it was hard to find anyplace to eat! In those days Oakland wasn't so big and it seemed like the area around the temple was a pretty quiet neighborhood. In those days the motels/hotels were around $30 a night for something fairly nice. Like Bethany, I had a honeymoon pig and that's what we used for our honeymoon!

ReplyDeleteAlso, we stayed at Tyson's uncle's cabin the in Park City and then we stayed at Tyson's neighbor's condo in St. George for the rest of the time.
